Getting Ideas
So, its been quite a while since I last really wrote anything. I have done some serious thinking about who I am, how I see myself in the Army and where I think I need to go. I was invited this past spring to a luncheon hosted by USO in NYC. USO was hosting the Woman of the Year Luncheon. I was honored that I was able to attend and represent West Point. I met a few lovely ladies and heard the guest speaker and how her career in the Navy has been successful.
While at this luncheon and speaking about my career, I had a moment. I realized that my happiness and how I should view success as a women who has a career in the Army was based on such silly standards. I had realized that instead of trying to be Lara Croft I had to be simply myself. I could and can be successful by aligning my career path with what I believe as a Christian.
Let me explain, I truly believe that God in his great plan and mercy created the most perfectly flawed human beings in the Garden of Eden. He created Adam and in His plan created Adam with some flaws. In order to complete Adam, God created Eve. Eve was his match, his companion that completed him. Eve too had flaws but they were flaws that complemented Adam.
So if we were created to complement Adam and not created to over shadow Adam, we cannot be Lara Croft. We have a role as a woman and that role is glorious and has purpose. Instead of trying to work so hard and ending every day with disappointment and sadness (because I am trying to be Croft), I needed to realign what was important. My success is how I can serve and be glorious in the design that God created for women. I can be beautiful, strong and successful without trying to be Croft or better yet, GI Jane.
I left the luncheon on lighter feet, a great sense of burden had been lifted off of my shoulders and on my heart. I realized that trying to be the next successful Army Officer based on male standards isn't realistic. I am not a male and what I can accomplish and achieve is based on me being a woman; the perfectly flawed portion of Adam to complement him to achieve the glory that God has designed for me.
My Adam is my husband, Lawrence. Who pretty much understood this so long ago. I just didn't get it. I kept pushing forward with aggressiveness, eagerness and hard work. I thought that as long as I work hard and keep pushing forward, I had to be doing well. My efforts would be recognized and that I would finally achieve that level of success that I was so longing for. I wanted to be in the top 10% of all officers, I wanted to be the best officer that my commander could count on. Regardless of the job and my gender, because I was so good, I could do anything. I could be a successful combatant commander.
The sad truth simply because I am not male/combat arms I wouldn't be the top 10%. I had finally accepted that the top 10% could be achieved but not based on the standards set by men, but rather the design set by God. My role was to serve as the best officer that I could be in a support position. I am the flawed woman that was created for the man.
Now, I am not by any means saying that we don't strive to work hard. I am not saying that we cannot be successful. What I am saying, just as I realized that we have a divine role that was designed for us by God, men have a job too. Men need to understand their role is to lead the house, to be the spiritual leader and also to recognize that being the lead (combat arms) that those that serve in positions of support are due your respect and courteousness.
Since that day this past spring, I have been growing my thoughts, ideas on how to strengthen what I believe. I also understand there will be many that won't believe in the same things. There are those that will continue to push for women to rise to the tops of all positions and ladders as well as being Infantry Soldiers. I truly wish the best for anyone, but I know my success lies in the design that was created for me by God.

Its GRAD Week!
As so of you may know, I work in the public affairs office at West Point. This week has been rather crazy! Its grad week here at West Point. Grad week is full of activities that center around the upcoming graduation this Saturday for the class of 2011. The crazy part has been the weather. It has rained rather hard every day making most of the planned activities unbearable.
This week has been long hours but on a positive note the amount of social media products that have been created has been great!

I believe
Below is a post that I put on my Facebook this morning. I just wanted to share it with you all. My workouts this week have been rather crappy. I have hit or miss most of my exercise time due to really long hours at work. However, today I finally feel that I can play catch up and I will be able to get back on track this evening. I hope you all are having a great day and prepping for a great weekend!
I believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted him as my personal savior. One facebooker has challenged all believers to put this on their wall. In the Bible it says, If you deny me in front of your peers, I will deny you in front of my Father at the gates of Heaven. This is simple. If you love God and are not afraid to show ...it repost this. Amen

As FEB comes to a close
Well, by far FEB was a much better month for me. I was able to workout more than JAN and I committed to a workout plan. I have been on the INSANITY kick for 2 weeks now. Its a great butt kicker at 0500 in the morning!
I have been really busy at work lately. My new job as the social media chief is really kicking my butt. I feel that I spend most days trying to get a head of the news ball and share what comes in, out to the people that like us on FB and who follow us on twitter.
I have also spent more time keeping my FB and twitter updated as well. I have grown over 20 followers on my twitter in the last 2 weeks alone! I am so excited about it! I work hard in trying to provide information about myself but at the same time providing news about the Army.
I am still training for my half marathon, its slow and I am going in on the training with the mind set; one foot in front of the other slowly! I am up to 5 miles and no issues thus far. However, I have a 7 miler this weekend, time to bust out the energy gels!
I have also added lunch time swims, so far I get to the pool twice a week.
Today I find myself in a pinch. Today around 1600 or 4pm; I have 3 events. 1. pick up dog from the vet (he got his teeth worked on) 2. buddy is getting promoted to LTC (this is a big deal!) 3. run 3.5 miles with my running group.
all three events are really important, hopefully I can figure out how I will be getting to each event!
I hope you all are having a great day!

Still Going!
I'm continuing to do my INSANITY workouts daily. This morning was a bit rough though, I really didnt get much sleep last night and so moving to workout was slow. I was super productive this morning, took all my vitamins, made lunch, ate breakfast, showered and even managed to get to work on time!! Woo Hoo!
Diet is getting better, I have changed my dinners to protein shakes and packed protein, and complex carbs during the day. So far its ok, I find myself hungry a lot though so I drink a lot of water. Yeah me for water intake!
My whole office is going lap swimming today at lunch, I am looking forward to it! I also am leading a 3 mile run this afternoon with my ladies running group. I guess I should build a route for it, huh? LOL.
I have been really busy with social media at work. My job now encompasses the social media chief for West Point. I am in charge of the West Point facebook page, you can find it at http://www.facebook.com/WestPointUSMA
The more fans that like my page the more cool toys and creative latitude I will get. I am also in charge of the West Point twitter page too, you can find it at http://twitter.com/WestPoint_USMA
I still have a lot of work to do but social media is coming along nicely.
Well I hope you all are having a great Wednesday, I know I'm looking forward to the weekend already!

Finding traction
so lately I have been struggling at work. I have become the master of pushing food around the plate. I have been leaving work the past week feeling like a failure and totally lost as to what the heck I actually accomplished that given day. I review everything that went on that day and realized that I was constantly working, moving from one project to another, but I actually never finished anything that was worth anything. I have been given a huge responsibility and I struggle with taking that new assignment to the next level. I am now in charge of the social media at West Point for the Public Affairs office.
I have devote a large amount of daily time to monitoring, developing and sharing stories on Facebook and Twitter. I struggle with finding content that is worth sharing but also developing content as well. It is way to easy to simply copy, paste and retweet someone else's work, however, the harder part is providing information that is fun, relevant and timely is the challenge.
I struggle on a daily basis on providing information that seems relevant to the world but so much of it is so inappropriate. As an official military site what I believe or what the unit believes in reference to all of the unrest in the middle east means nothing. I also wonder what content I can provide that will engage my audience in providing feedback other than hitting the like button.
On a side note I have deleted my twitter account, my focus for twitter remains with my official twitter site for West Point.
The one good thing is I have been pretty good at being consistent with working out. I am still waking up and doing INSANITY with my husband. I am getting in afternoon runs at least 2 times a week. I have also tried to stick with at least 2 afternoon swims. So far the workout plan isn't too bad. Now onto my eating habits. So far I've done well with changing the diet, I just know I can do better.
why is that all the food that taste so good is just so bad for you? Why couldn't we have been introduced to foods that tastes delicious that are also good for you? Why can't I seem to want to love apples and oranges like I love chocolate and cheesecakes? Hmmm... if only.
I am excited that I walked away from work today feeling like I finally made way about work. I have a better outlook heading into work tomorrow. I think I might have found my traction. :)

a new toy!
So, I have completed 1 week of INSANITY workouts! Yeah, one step at a time. I'm really good at completing things one week at a time, so next week will be a push for me. I feel better every day, I am lifting my spirits by really looking to the Lord and doing something good for my soul and body.
I am enjoying my day off today and I am not looking forward to another day of work tomorrow, sad I know. Well I am excited about the eagerness that I feel about trying to develop my personal relationship with the Lord, I am also excited that I'm getting up every morning at 0445 and doing my workouts. I am also balancing without killing myself afternoon swims, runs or cycling. My plan is to build the ability to workout twice a day and hard without killing myself. I tried a few times last week but I wasn't successful everyday, my body was telling me that I need to take it slow and build toward a better fitness day.
Today I completed my workout, made a yummy low calorie high protein strawberry and banana smoothie. I think I might have found a different way to reduce calories but getting the much needed protein in daily. I am also happy to note that my daily water intake has doubled! This is a huge deal for me, I have learned not to drink water. Too many years in the field and deployed with no resources to relieve oneself in combat, around all men have taught me to drink minimally. I know a really bad habit.
So to help me with the excitement that has been bubbling in me for the past 2 weeks, I got a new toy! I got a new iPOD nano, in pink of course! I have ordered a watch strap for my nano so I can sport it as a useful watch and MP3 player! I am so excited!
I hope everyone is having a great day as I am!

INSANITY
So this week, I decided along with my husband that we are going to do the INSANITY workout. We ordered it, it arrived on Tuesday afternoon and we dug in.
The weather here has been horrible and the snow has caused the gym to be closed too often which has been destroying our training plans. The answer we thought would be INSANITY for 60 days. By the time we are finish with this training program the weather will be better and hitting the gym daily won't be an issue.
The first couple of workouts have been tough, there are a lot of jumping moves to keep your heart rate elevated. I have been struggling with these moves. I also run and swim so digging really deep into INSANITY is tough. I am sure by next week after my body has gotten use to being punished 2 or 3 times a day the workouts will get better. I have 57 more days left!
I'm excited and I'm excited that I finally have worked in lunch time swims. I really can't swim, but I'm doing drills so I don't freak out. Tri season is about to open and I'm excited. I can't wait for a few races this summer, we'll see how I do.
I am also very happy that today is FRI! Since MON is a holiday I get 3 days off from work! WOOHOO!! I can hardly wait for the weekend! Too bad I'll spend most of it doing taxes!
Well, hope you all are well and having a good one!

A new focus
Hello everyone! I hope everyone's training has been going well so far this year. Its been a minute since I last posted anything. I tried to stick to my idea of what this year's fitness regime would be, but it got totally derailed!
The good news, my workouts got derailed because I got a new boss. She is awesome but anytime you bring in someone new you have to adjust to their demands, wants and vision. I think I have an idea now!
The other great new is, fitness is important to her as well, so I have been given permission to leave to workout! Yippy!
The other new is, this past weekend my husband and I went on a church retreat. It was really great and something that we truly needed. We met some awesome people from our church and had a great time. The best thing that happened this weekend was how I realized that my focus needs to change. I realized that in order to have the life I want, I must completely surrender to God.
I am excited and I can't wait for the transformation to begin not only with me physically but spiritually as well.
This week kicks off week 1 of my half marathon training plan. I am signed up for a half in May. We'll see how it goes, hopefully this run will be better than the last race this past October.
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Moving along
Yesterday I have to say was a great day. I was very productive at work and was able to leave the office a little early to workout. I met my running group to begin day 1 of my half marathon training plan. It was only 3 miles and it was very slow! I realized as I hit mile 1 that I hadn't ran since Thanksgiving! I pretty much took time off from running after my half marathon in October, my knees pretty much called it quits.
Although the run was slow, it was great to get out and just move. After my 3 miles, I hit the gym for about 20 minutes and did some light all over body weights. I figured light and from head to toe would be a great break in. I felt a little sore this morning waking up but I felt better.
I'll be hitting the gym after work today and I'll do a SealFit work out of the day! I'll follow it up with a light 30 minute spin on my cycle trainer at home.
Oh yeah! My dad has been deployed to Iraq for the past 3.5 years. He has worked with KBR and a security company. I will say he took these jobs because the pay is higher, but only because times hit my folks hard. His hard work overseas has only gotten my parents out of the black but they are still in the red. It breaks my heart that my folks work so hard and have nothing for retirement. Anyways, my dad is finally taking a vacation! He will come to visit me next month! I am so excited! My sister might even come up from Georgia so we can have a mini family reunion.
I am thankful for all the blessings in my life. I am so thankful that I have all of my needs met and than some. The Army is a tough life and we are asked to sacrifice a lot, but I wouldn't trade a day! I love everything that I have accomplished as an officer, a person and a leader. I love that I am a part of something bigger than me. I love that with this job, I get a sense of security, I get a pay check every 2 weeks and as long God willing I will retire in 10 years.
Well off to do some work! Hope you all have a great day!

Second week
Good morning! Woke up a few minutes late this morning. I was a bit behind in getting the gears in motion. Made it to the gym and grinded out a SealFit WOD below.
Baseline: Bar Bell Complex 75 - 105# w/ burpee chaser
Work Capacity: 10 Rounds for time:
* 10 x Dead Lift (225#)
* 15 x CrossFit Push-ups
* 20 x Double Unders
Durability: Run 3 miles at moderate pace. Active Stretch.
The bar bell complex is 6 reps of each of the following moves: dead lift, bent over row, hang power clean, front squat, push press, back squat and burpees. I did 45LBS and that sucked :)
For work capacity: it says 10 rounds but I ended up only completing 6 rounds and i wasn't able to do my 3 mile run. I ran out of time this morning. I did 65LBs for my dead lifts since 225LBS is a bit out of reach for me!
I had a protein shake this morning and oatmeal with bananas. I am feeling good. I set my watch to beep every 3 hours so I can eat something small. Last week all my hard work ended me eating more, I was hungry all day long. At least I've gotten better with the types of foods I put in my mouth. I'm stocked on water and fruits and protein. I'm set and its Monday morning. Its gonna be awesome!
The weather is still freezing here. Its supposed to snow another 12 inches this Tuesday night! I'm not sure where all that snow is going because the other 2 feet of snow outside is still there frozen and stuck to everything!
Hope everyone has a great week!

The Snow is coming!
Another awesome morning! Got up early hit the gym and did a SealFit WOD. I am still sore from yesterday's workout but its all worth it! I ate a great breakfast as well, oatmeal, eggs and a banana.
The plus side is, I'm hitting the gym and talking with the iron. The negative side, I'm ALWAYS HUNGRY!!! Normally I am not as hungry between meal times, but now all I can think about is eating! Hmmm, I really don't think this was part of the plan on loosing weight. :(
We are anticipating another snow storm, its anticipated that the snow will hit us late tonight and will continue through Friday into Saturday. The weather station is saying 7 to 10 inches however, we still have 12 inches of frozen snow everywhere except the roads! Hmmm, I feel that coming to work tomorrow will be an adventure and a pain in the butt!
Oh, another good thing, I had a cycle trainer from last year that I pulled out of the closet and we purchased another trainer last night for my husband. So now every night we are going to cycle on our trainers for an hour while watching our favorite shows (NCIS, Bones, Burn Notice, etc). The bikes are set on the trainers and they are ready to go! OH yeah!
I'm glad that is Thursday because I can't wait for SAT! I'm not sure what I'm doing SAT but I just can't wait for SAT!
I hope you all are having a great day!

SealFit!
Today was day 1 of the new year for me. I missed Monday and Tuesday morning due to a migraine that never wanted to leave. So FINALLY it left and i woke up and hit the gym with my husband. My workout sucked! I was smoked before I hit the halfway point! I ran out of time too, I have to get in and leave in order to make up my hair and face in time to be on time at work. Trying to get into a required uniform look is tedious!
I feel great, had breakfast already and now I'm figuring out how the rest of the week is going to shape up. The forecast calls for snow this FRI AND SAT!!! Yikes and yucky! The idea of snow seems really cool but now that I see only yucky dirty snow everywhere I can honestly say, I MISS TEXAS!
I hope everyone's new years is kicking of great! I'm pumped for the new year since it brings new people at work too include a new boss! Hopefully she will be cool with me leaving at lunch to get a swim in. We usually do working lunches around here.
Work is going well, I have two major projects lined up for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully if everything goes well my products will be on espn.com and goarmy.com later in the year!
This weekend is the weekend to bring the XMAS lights down and put away all the glittery ornaments on the tree. I hate putting them away, it feels like the spirit of XMAS gets wrapped up and stored.
Its still freezing around these parts and I'm wishing for warmer days.
BTW, Army won their bowl game against SMU in Dallas last week. YEAH our first bowl game since dirt was considered dirt, ok not really but its been over 14 years since our last bowl so it was awesome to win this one! GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!

Happy New Year!
So I post my blogs both on this site and with bodybuilding; however their site is down.
I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I hope that you all have a blessed year and that all your goals in life are met!
For me this year, I plan on getting real serious with my training. I decided to SealFit this year since I found out last year that running only doesn't work for me. I have already started with making healthier meals so the next step is to cut out even more fat.
This past XMAS holiday, my sister and her husband visited me from Fort Benning, GA. It was really great to have family over. We spent 2 weeks just hanging out at West Point and NYC. We saw Wintuk at Madison Square Garden as well as Lion King on Broadway! It was amazing to see such great performers!
I also took them around NYC and showed them the landmark spots, too include ground zero. It was so emotional for me to be there. I took a look around and saw how life, and people have bounced back since September 11, 2001. I am amazed and happy that the American people have such depth and determination. It was also emotional to try to imagine the horror of that day. I can only say that I truly love being a part of something bigger than myself.
Today is the first day of work since the XMAS holiday period. I can honestly say that its a bit tough being back in the office. I can't wait for the day to end already and its only begun!
This weekend will a short one, the cadets at West Point have class on Saturday so my husband will be working. I on the other hand will be cleaning the house, I will be putting away the XMAS decorations too include the tree. I have to say its going to be sad to put away the lights and the spirit of the holidays.
I hope everyone's week has started well.
